Centenary Variety Show
10th October 2026Be part of the show!
Yes – the venerable village hall is 100 years old this year. It was founded as a Women’s Institute in October 1926. Since its foundation the friendly hall has seen many and various activities including dances (notably during WWII), quizzes, concerts, weddings, parties, films, and theatrical events including, for a third of its life, a regular pantomime.
To celebrate the centenary, on Saturday 10 October we plan a variety show featuring, principally, YOU! Details will be announced nearer the time, but please put the date in your diary now.
And if you would like to be involved in the show itself, it’s not too soon to start thinking about what you might do. You could perform as part of a group or duet, or solo. Your act could be musical, magical, dramatic, acrobatic or just plain silly – or it might simply be a reading or recitation. It’s up to you! We can organise accompaniment or backing if necessary for any musical numbers. And don’t worry, we’re not going to have judges or give you marks!
We will ask performers to attend a rehearsal/run-through the previous Sunday afternoon (4 October) to allow us to work out a running order. We may need to impose a 5-minute time limit on individual acts.
Of course, you might prefer just to be in the audience – and that’s fine; we will put tickets on sale early in the summer.
Some people may remember similar events being held to mark the 80th and 90th anniversaries. We are sure the 100th anniversary will be a very special event indeed!
